Light and Colour

As January is fast closing I thought I might add some light and colour to your screen.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Barnes Foundation [visited between Boxing Day and New Years Day] intensified my zest to paint the “urban” scene.

Attached are nine pictures with that particular motif.

I’m certain that Nancy and my arrival in New York City in a couple of weeks, and the consequent visits to the MOMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Frick, Whitney and Guggenheim, will pique that zest!

2013 is, indeed, H AP P Y !

August 2012 – Newfoundland and PEI

I’ve just returned from two wonderful weeks in the Maritimes.

The first, painting with a group of 17 others, in Trinity Bay, Newfoundland.

The second, with Nancy, in Malpeque, PEI.

The two weeks, again, proves to me what a wonderful country Canada is; just a half time zone separating these two provinces is a world of difference!  Trinity Bay’s beauty consists of rugged magnificence; Malpeque’s beauty consists of serene and quiet grandeur.

Below are five of my images from that trip.

Just to give you advance notice that you will be able to see more of my work at:
  1. my studio [11 Thorne Street] on Saturday, September 22 and Sunday September 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the 2012 Cambridge Studio Tour; and
  2. at the Etobicoke Civic Centre Six Degrees of Freedom group show from September 30 to October 27 (opening reception on Sunday, October 14 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
If you can, I’d like to see you!

July 2012 – Charlevoix, Quebec

I’ve just returned from a week’s painting trip [with 10 other intrepid artists] to Charlevoix, Quebec.  Charlevoix is the area on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River about one and a half hours north of Quebec City.

The charm of this area has captured Canadian artists for 150 years.  A meteor, which impacted this landscape one million years ago, created breathtaking rolling hills and fertile farms and forests.  The architecture, both on land and river, is wonky, warm and wonderful.

Here are four motifs that stimulated me during the week.
