The Mighty Grand: The importance of the Grand River cannot be overstated. It provided for early settlers to turn the wheels of industry, the backbone of commerce in Waterloo Region. The Grand River, flows 200 kilometres through southwestern Ontario from the highlands of Dufferin County to Port Maitland on Lake Erie. Municipalities along the river, the Province of Ontario, many partner groups along with the Grand River Conservation Authority have worked diligently over the years to manage and restore the Grand, a Canadian Heritage River.
